Fluor to Design Two New Solar Power Plants in Spain

Fluor Corporation announced that Elecnor S.A. has awarded the company an engineering services contract for two new 50 megawatt (MW) concentrating solar power (CSP) plants in Alcazar de San Juan, Spain. Fluor booked the undisclosed contract value in the third quarter of 2010.

"We are pleased that Elecnor has shown confidence in us to perform services for their two new solar power generation facilities," said Dave Dunning, president of Fluor's Power Group. "Our ongoing ASTEXOL 2 CSP project in Badajoz positioned us well for these two new units."

"Fluor continues to expand its position in the global solar power generation market both in the CSP arena and in the utility scale photovoltaic (PV) space," said Brad Friesen, vice president of Fluor's renewables business line. "We are confident in our ability to bring the best value to Elecnor and all of our renewables clients."

Fluor will provide basic and detailed engineering and other associated services for these two new solar units. When complete, the two 50 MW CSP generating facilities will capture solar energy using parabolic trough mirrors and will ultimately convert the energy into electricity through a steam turbine generator.

The project is under way with engineering expected to be complete by the third quarter of 2011. Fluor's Asturias and Madrid, Spain, operations will lead the engineering effort with support from its southern California operations center. Fluor has been providing services to Elecnor since 2009.
