Endesa and Cepsa to install recharging points for electric vehicles at service stations.

Both companies have signed a collaboration agreement to develop, integrate, roll out and test a network of recharging points at Cepsa service stations.

Both companies are keen to develop the EV and electric mobility as a means to promote the fight against climate change and contribute to the company successfully meeting its sustainability and economic growth objectives while at the same time creating value for shareholders.

Endesa and Cepsa have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly draw up a plan to develop, test and roll out a network of recharging points for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles at Cepsa service stations. This agreement was presented by the respective chairmen of Endesa, Borja Prado, and Cepsa, Santiago Bergareche. Its objective is to develop and test technical solutions which guarantee the commercial viability of these vehicles and the recharging process as well as the presence of both companies in the electric mobility market.

According to the Endesa chairman, Borja Prado, “Endesa is a power company in the broadest sense of the word, but above all we are a company which provides the population with an essential service, i.e. satisfying their energy needs. That is why both Cepsa and Endesa wish to take this huge step in integrating the power supply as it is the customer’s choice and we are here to provide that service”.

Santiago Bergareche, for his part, noted "the electric car and the plug-in hybrid could be an interesting solution for urban traffic given their range. This is why Cepsa wished to forge this alliance with Endesa to assess the viability of this project in cities and to continue to offer our customers the best service possible”.

The recharging stations to be installed form part of the Movele project, promoted by the Government to develop the EV in Spain. The Movele project is managed and coordinated by IDAE (the Spanish Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving) and involves the introduction of electric vehicles of various categories, with a variety of features and technologies, across a broad range of companies, institutions and private individuals for use in urban environments at the end of 2010. A total of 546 recharging points for these vehicles will also be set up in Madrid (280), Barcelona (191) and Seville (75). At the beginning of December, Endesa signed a collaboration agreement with the Madrid city council, represented by the Fundación Movilidad, to launch the Movele project in conjunction with Cobra Gestión de Infraestructuras. It has also signed another collaboration agreement with the Barcelona city council to create Oficina Live for the joint development and promotion of electric mobility in the city. One of the main features of this agreement is the development of the Movele project.

Both Endesa and Cepsa have expressed their willingness and total commitment in developing the electric vehicle given its significant contribution in meeting sustainability and economic objectives, contributing to economic development and creating value. In fact, Endesa has already pledged to develop a sustainable transport policy based on the electric vehicle as a key element in combating climate change, a cornerstone of its Sustainability Strategic Plan 2008-2012.
